INDIANAPOLIS — School officials placed Herron High School on lockdown Thursday morning after a student reported that another student may have had a handgun on campus.
IMPD responded to the school, located at 116 E. 16th St. on the near north side of Indianapolis, on Sept. 11 and detained the student in question and confiscated the gun from a backpack.
The school said their investigation determined there was no intended threat to anyone at the school.
Families were notified of the incident through phone and email messages.
“I’m very sad to see this student make that choice, but it was all handled very quickly and efficiently, and no one was ever in danger,” said Janet McNeal, president of Herron Classical Schools.
The lockdown has since been lifted.
Police later arrested the student o
