HOWARD COUNTY, Ind. — A Howard County judge has been banned from judicial service in the state after an investigation into misconduct .
Disciplinary charges against Matthew J. Elkin were filed by the Indiana Commission on Judicial Qualifications in March for nine alleged counts of misconduct, who was the supervising judge of both the drug court and re-entry court in Howard County Superior Court I.
The Indiana Supreme Court issued an opinion on Elkin's case Thursday, Sept. 10, saying he "shall be permanently banned from judicial service" as part of a conditional agreement between the parties. The Court ordered Elkin to submit his resignation to Gov. Mike Braun and leave office on or before Sept. 30, 2025.
