WASHINGTON — D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Council honored the District's first responders on Thursday, as well as those lost in the 9/11 terrorist attacks .
The ceremony was held at Engine Company 16 in Northwest, D.C., where, 24 years ago, firefighters from the fire house responded to the terrorist attack on the Pentagon. District leadership, and first responders, paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives to service.
"Remember the sense of safety that we lost," Bowser said. "We know how our lives were changed forever. And we know all the work that we have done to harden and better prepare the nation's capital."
