RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Some Richmond residents have noticed their tap water had a "sulfur-like odor" on Thursday.
On the afternoon of Thursday, Sept. 11, the city's Department of Utilities (DPU) said it had received reports that residents had detected a "sulfur-like odor" in their tap water.
Officials said hydrants are being flushed in areas where these reports have been received "as a precautionary measure."
At this time, DPU said the city's tap water remains safe to use.
"We take all concerns about water quality very seriously," the department said. "Our team is actively investigating any potential causes resulting from the city's water treatment plant or in the distribution system."
