CHESTERFIELD, Va. (WWBT)—Students and staff at Virginia State University can breathe a sigh of relief now that they are all safe after a threat Thursday morning caused the campus to lock down.
“The problem is you don’t know what is real and what is just a hoax, so the default position and the best position is to treat something as if it’s real,” said 12 On Your Side’s security expert Michael Jones.
Jones is the President of Major Security Consulting and Design. On Thursday night, he described what goes into determining whether a threat is credible.
“A lot of it is the language,” Jones said, “People’s use of language is unique to them, and if a person has done something like that before, you can pick it up through a variety of different forensic evaluations.”
A similar threat also targ
