BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Law enforcement leaders are warning parents about the dangers of using Snapchat.
The warning follows criminal charges against a former Blount County corrections officer accused of sending explicit photos of himself to minors on the app.
“I tell teens all the time, what do you have that needs to go away within a few minutes or seconds? You probably don’t need to be sending it,” said Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey.
Calera Police Chief David Hyche encouraged parents to have conversations with their children about the risks. He said Snapchat can also be linked to cyberbullying.
Chief Hyche encourages parents to educate themselves by knowing their children’s passwords, using apps to monitor their kids’ usage, and knowing what apps are out there
