Lately, many of our local headlines have focused on homelessness. But I’d like to introduce Tulsa to a new term — one that has guided our team throughout the launch of the City Lights Village project: homefulness.
Homefulness is the state of being when lost dignity and hope are restored, with a safe home in which to live and community to share life with.
This word captures the shift from hopelessness to hopefulness, and from homelessness to homefulness. City Lights exists to bear witness to transformation: from brokenness to wholeness, and from homelessness to homefulness.
When one experiences the catastrophic loss of relationship, along with a safe place to call home, the result is exposure to harsh elements and extreme isolation from their safety net of community.
