Hillsborough Canvassing Board certifies results, setting the stage for an October runoff to fill the vacant City Council seat.

TAMPA, Fla. – The race for the vacant City of Tampa City Council seat is officially headed to a runoff election, as the Hillsborough County Canvassing Board certified the initial unofficial results of the Special Municipal Election this evening. With no single candidate securing a majority of the vote, the top two vote-getters, Thomas Scott and Naya Young, will face off in a new election next month.

The Canvassing Board confirmed that no recounts are necessary, and they will reconvene on Friday, September 12, at 2 p.m., to officially certify the results and conduct a post-election audit.
