PORTLAND, Maine — Eight years after the University of Maine School of Law's building was ranked as one of the ugliest buildings in the country , Maine's only law school records the highest rate of attendance in nearly three decades.

Maine Law is no longer located on Deering Avenue and is no longer in dire financial straits, University of Maine Chancellor Dannel Malloy says. When he took over as the head of Maine's university system, Malloy says one of his top priorities was revitalizing the law school.

"If we had gone away, the legal community would be struggling right now," Malloy said.

For 2025, the school reports 291 students in the three-year program, with 105 students making up its first-year class.
