DODGE COUNTY, Neb. —

Two mosquito pools in Dodge County have tested positive for West Nile virus.

The testing is part of the Three Rivers Public Health Department's mosquito surveillance effort.

The latest discovery brings the total number of positive pools in the Three Rivers Public Health Department's jurisdiction to five.

To protect yourself, the following precautions are recommended to reduce your risk:

Use an insect repellent that contains DEET

Wear long-sleeved shirts, long pants, shoes and socks

Remove standing water

Empty and change water in bird baths, fountains, wading pools, etc.

Replace or repair torn window and door screens

Most people who become infected with West Nile virus will have no symptoms or mild, flu-like symptoms.
