OMAHA, Neb. —
The city of Omaha settled a pending lawsuit involving former Omaha police captain Kathy Belcastro-Gonzalez.
Belcastro-Gonzalez was awarded nearly $1 million in a retaliation suit in 2022, and then sued she sued again in January 2024, saying the city and chief retaliated after that earlier verdict by firing her in July 2022.
In a news release, the city did not say how much it settled the case for, but said it fully supports Omaha police Chief Todd Schamderer.
The news release also said he acted appropriately in this case.
KETV Investigates obtained public documents showing Belcastro-Gonzalez would get $500,000 to settle all claims and another $160,000 for her attorney's fees.
Omaha City Council will approve that settlement on Tuesday.
