Fans of fireworks are finally able to light up on New Years — legally, that is.

The Enumclaw City Council voted to allow fireworks to be set off the evening of Dec. 31 through the early morning of Jan. 1 during the Sept. 8 meeting.

In favor of the ordinance was Council member Corrie Coopman Franzier, Bobby Martines, Anthony Wright and Jan Martinell.

Council member Chris Gruner opposes, while Council members Chance LaFleur and Tom Sauvageau were absent.

In the past, Enumclaw only allowed fireworks on the Fourth of July, while neighboring city Buckley allows them for the start of the year. Black Diamond also only allows fireworks to be lit for Independence Day.
