NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The president of the American Federation of Teachers made a stop Thursday at a school in New Haven.

Randi Weingarten visited the Truman School and highlighted the school's career and technical education programs.

Under a federal plan, these programs could see major budget setbacks, making it more important than ever to highlight the work local educators are doing.

"There's a lot of struggle going on right now and we still are so very much committed to the work of our public school educators and union members and to the promise of public education in this city and this state," Leslie Blatteau, the president of the New Haven Federation of Teachers, said.
