The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office released the bodycam footage in the fatal Wednesday morning deputy-involved shooting of a 45-year-old man in St. Augustine.

The incident happened around 5:42 a.m. after St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office deputies Joseph Mailloux and Kristapher James responded to calls from a resident who lived on 1st Street near Brainard Drive about a man in her backyard.

The woman also told deputies that she and Brad Sweeny had gotten into a confrontation the previous day.

When the deputies arrived, the bodycam footage showed Sweeny walking toward the deputies, who demanded that he put the gun down.
