ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. — A foul stench continues to plague neighborhoods near a water treatment facility in Atlantic Beach.

City leaders announced new efforts this week to try to get the smell under control.

"It smells like sewage," said Jeremy Nix, whose home backs right up to the water treatment facility on Donner Road.

After six years, he says he's gotten used to keeping the windows closed.

"There've been a couple of times I've noticed it being particularly pungent, shall we say," said Nix. "But I've lived here long it's become background noise."

Atlantic Beach city leaders don't want it to be background noise - or background smell - for the folks like Nix who live around it.
