TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —
First responders in Tuscaloosa climbed the steps at Coleman Coliseum as the names of thousands of people killed on Sept. 11, 2001, were read aloud.
They took 2,200 steps up and another 2,200 down, the equivalent of the 110 floors in the World Trade Center.
The remembrance ceremony started with a climb for local first responders, after which the coliseum opened to the public, allowing anyone to honor those who died.
This is the second year the public has been allowed to join.
Last year, many students took time between classes to climb the stairs and pay their respects.
