ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) - Detectives have arrested three people in connection with the burglary and theft of a rare Abraham Lincoln statue from Houmas House and Gardens in Darrow.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office says the overnight burglary happened on Saturday, Sept. 6. A broken window was found where the suspects forced entry before stealing the 645-pound solid silver statue, created by Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor best known for Mount Rushmore. The statue’s historic value is estimated at $166,000.
During the investigation, detectives learned the suspects cut the statue into pieces and sold parts at a pawn shop and a gold and silver shop in Metairie.
