On the first floor of the Edison building in downtown Calgary, a trumpet sounded at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

The music marked an evening celebrating the launch of an entirely free art gallery hosted by the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, celebrating 50 contemporary works by Alberta artists.

As of Sept. 11, the gallery will be open to members of the public to view the works Tuesday through Friday from noon to 4 p.m.
