NEW ORLEANS — A New Orleans man once convicted of armed robbery and second-degree murder has been found not guilty on those same charges.

Thursday’s verdict comes after Kendall Harrison was ordered to have a new trial. That’s because his original conviction in 2014 was by a non-unanimous jury. He was sentenced to life in prison, with the possibility of parole after 45 years.

In 2012, Harrison was accused of carjacking a woman in Algiers and then killing a man who tried to help her. He was 17 years old at the time and had been behind bars ever since.

“I think it’s the right verdict. He should have been acquitted all those years ago,” said lead defense attorney Scott Sherman. “Slow justice is better than no justice, but at least we got there.”

Sherman picked up the case about a year ago.
