Target 7: City of Roanoke requests 15% of Google data center revenue from Botetourt

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The City of Roanoke has concerns over the new Google data center coming to Botetourt County.

Specifically, the city wants to ensure its water source is protected and there is enough money to pay for needed upgrades.

Our Target 7 team submitted a Freedom of Information Act Request last month on the communication between Roanoke City and Botetourt over the data center.

While the documents show the city is supportive of the data center, the proposal comes with a major caveat.

The City of Roanoke wants 15 percent of the annual revenue from the Google data center.
