BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Birmingham's Virginia Samford Theatre is celebrating its 99th season this year. This milestone has been titled "The Season of Hope."

According to a statement from Virgina Samford Theatre, "The Season of Hope" features productions that highlight resilience and connect the past to the present.

“People are looking for connection and hope, not just for themselves but for the future of their community and their loved ones,” Philip Mann, executive director of Virginia Samford Theatre, said in a statement. “All the shows come back to family. We make our own community and there’s not one definition. We want to tell stories that cover the entire spectrum of Alabama families.”

The season will open on Sept. 19 with the Alabama premiere of "Carole Cook Dies for My Sins."
