OREM, Utah (ABC4) — Former Utah Governor Gary Herbert spoke to ABC4 about the tragedy that occurred on UVU campus when conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was shot and killed, condemning political violence and calling for unity.

Herbert has a personal connection to Utah Valley University (UVU), as that is the location of the Gary R. Herbert Institute for Public Policy, and he has spent time visiting the campus and speaking at the institute.

"It's a sad day for Utah, a sad day for Utah Valley University, and a sad day for the Kirk family. First and foremost, we offer our condolences, our best wishes, and our love for the Kirk family and for his entire team, many of which were here for this tragic event today," Herbert said.
