SACO, Maine — The Governor John Fairfield School in Saco was closed Monday and Tuesday after a water main broke over the weekend.

Principal Wendy Leblanc met Saco Public Works and Maine Water Company at the school Saturday after the sprinklers triggered the school's alarm systems. The district's facilities director Don Roth, said the water main broke around 7 a.m. He said when he and his deputy director arrived at 1:30 p.m., the area was completely flooded.

According to Roth, water mains can typically last 75 to 100 years. This particular main was less than 30 years old and located at a section of the building that was built in 1999 to 2000.
