(KWWL)— The search continues for the person responsible for the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed at a campus speaking event in Utah. Kirk's passing has resonated deeply, especially among those who knew him well.

Joe Mitchell, a Republican running for the second congressional seat in Iowa, shared his personal connection to Kirk. Mitchell, who met Kirk in 2019, described the loss as devastating.

"It's been devastating somebody his age being 31 with a wife and two very young children. It's horrible," Mitchell said. "I hope we never see a day like this in our history again."

Mitchell says had plans to invite Kirk to speak with him at the University of Iowa, emphasizing how Kirk's absence will affect the political scene.
