Anthon Heffernan's mother, Irene, said her family is 'shocked' and that 'we're disappointed and frustrated once again'

Disciplinary charges against two Calgary police officers in the case of the killing of a man in a northeast motel room have been dismissed, with a lawyer saying too much time has passed and any penalties would be too light.

The decision made in consultation with Calgary police appears to bring to an end a decade-long search for accountability by the family of Anthony Heffernan, 27, who was fatally shot by Const. Maurice McLoughlin on March 16, 2015.
