From the Sept. 14, 1961 News Record:
John Watt, 24, a former resident of Gillette, died from injuries received in a helicopter accident at sea with the U.S. Navy on Sept. 6, according to information received by the News Record from his mother, Ann Watt of Victorville, California. Details of the mishap were not available, but it happened aboard the USS Antares to which PN2 Watt was assigned. John had mostly served in Hawaii and off the Washington and Oregon coast, since enlisting in the Navy in 1955 in Sheridan. He was assigned to the USS Antares last October and was on duty in the Atlantic Ocean at the time of his death.
