ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Georgia lawmakers were expected to gather at the State Capitol on Thursday to mark the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks, holding a remembrance ceremony that carried added weight in the wake of conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s death on Wednesday.
Democratic state Rep. Derrick Jackson led the ceremony. He reflected on the nearly 3,000 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001.
“In the aftermath of 9/11, our nation came together,” Jackson said. “We must continue that spirit of unity now.”
