WARREN, MI — General Motors is temporarily closing one of two buildings at its corporate campus after two employees tested positive for Legionnaires’ disease.
The Cole Engineering Center, on GM Tech Center Road, will remain closed until Monday, Sept. 22, the Detroit Free Press reports .
About 10,000 to 11,000 people — mostly engineers and designers — work in the Cole building, GM spokeswoman Tara Kuhnen told the Free Press. Those employees are being told they can work from home or from another GM location.
GM was notified late Wednesday, Sept. 10, by the Macomb County Health Department of the two cases, Kuhnen said.
“Out of an abundance of caution, GM took immediate action to close the building and has ordered comprehensive third-party testing for the site,” she said.
