(WFSB) - A woman was charged for attempting to deposit a U.S. Treasury check.

Officials say that on August 27th, 2024, 30-year-old Madisyn Pettaway used a stolen identity and fraudulent New Jersey drivers license to open an account at a Charter Oak Federal Credit Union Branch.

She would then try to deposit a U.S. Treasury check that was worth over $400,000. The bank did not accept it.

Then, in June 2025, she opened another account using a fraudulent identity.

On July 28th, East Lyme police arrested Pettaway and charged her. She possessed a fake New York drivers license and three debit cards with fake identities when she was taken into custody.

She was arrested on a federal criminal complaint on August 20th.
