WIND POINT, Wis. (WKOW) -- A small plane went down in Lake Michigan Thursday afternoon near Racine County.

The crash happened around 12:30 p.m., about 14 miles east of Wind Point. The Coast Guard launched a rescue boat and helicopter to search for the single-engine plane.

According to our Milwaukee affiliate , all three people on board were rescued safely. Officials said they were wearing life jackets, and no injuries were reported.

"I think this really illustrates life jackets do save lives," Coast Guard Lt. Joe Neff said. "We try to tell everybody on Lake Michigan please wear a life jacket. We're very fortunate that they were all three safe from the plane crash, but then were able to have life jackets to float there in the water for 40 minutes before we got on scene to pick them up."
