EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - The local NAACP chapter held a panel discussion about educational laws that recently went into effect.
Community members gathered at Memorial Baptist Church to hear from community leaders about how the new laws will affect students, teachers and families.
Some of the topics discussed included funding for Pre-K programs, attendance policies, and changes to what can be taught in schools.
“I think knowledge is power and so, the more you know what you are working with, the more you can understand how to work the system,” says NAACP Education Chair Pamela Decker.
Decker says one goal of the event is to make sure there are no discriminatory practices within any public education programs.
