Madison Fire and Rescue held its annual 9/11 ceremony Thursday morning, marking 24 years since the tragic events of September 11, 2001. The ceremony, held at Toyota Field, honored the nearly 3,000 lives lost, including the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Huntsville firefighter Blake Robinson participated in the event by running 110 flights of stairs in full uniform for the first time, representing the distance to reach the upper floors of the World Trade Center.
“It’s important to remember history. Otherwise we’re doomed to have it repeat itself," Robinson said.
After finishing his shift Thursday morning, Robinson headed straight to the park to honor those who lost their lives. He acknowledged the challenge of climbing with the added weight of his gear.
