WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — In response to a rapid increase in alcohol retailers, the City of Warner Robins is proposing new restrictions on where liquor stores can operate a move city leaders say is meant to address growing concerns from residents and reduce potential safety issues.

The proposed ordinance, which heads to City Council for a vote on Oct. 15, would require a minimum of 2,000 feet between package liquor stores. It also introduces additional criteria city officials can use when evaluating new alcohol license applications.

Those include:

The number and type of 9-1-1 calls within 100 feet of the proposed location

Whether the store owner or manager has had a license revoked in Georgia

Whether traffic in the area could make it difficult for public safety to respond to emergencie
