PHOENIX (AZFamily) — Police say a woman is fighting for her life after a crash forced the closure of a busy Phoenix intersection Thursday evening.

Authorities said the wreck involving two cars happened near 17th Avenue and Camelback Road around 6:10 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found a passenger in one of the cars who was seriously hurt. She was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Details on the drivers involved in the crash haven’t been released.

Police said the immediate area is shut down as investigators piece together what led up to the crash.

Phoenix police are expected to provide an update on Friday morning.
