Mark David Chapman, the man who murdered Beatles legend John Lennon more than four decades ago, has been denied parole for the 14th time, Parade reports.

According to records from New York’s Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, Chapman’s latest bid for freedom was rejected following his August 27 parole hearing. The 70-year-old has been incarcerated since shooting Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment on December 8, 1980.

Chapman has been eligible for parole since 2000, twenty years after his conviction. Parole boards have consistently rejected Chapman’s release requests, citing the severity of his crime and its global impact.
