EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- As New Mexico residents begin to rebuild after recent severe flooding, FEMA is warning people of contractor service fraud.

According to the news release by FEMA, the department does not license or certify contractors, but encourages residents to use local contractors, not out-of-town "scam artists."

"Out-of-town scam artists may be the first to arrive at your front door after a flood," read the news release.
