Break out the lederhosen and dirndls — Oktoberfest is back and bigger than ever in the Des Moines metro. The 21st Annual Des Moines Oktoberfest takes place Sept. 26-27 at its new home in The District at Prairie Trail in Ankeny, bringing two days of German-style revelry with 30-plus beers, live polka and rock bands, stein-holding contests, bratwurst, schnitzel, and all the pretzels you can eat.

The Des Moines Biergarten Oktoberfest at Water Works Park runs Sept. 19-21, offering a family-friendly atmosphere with free admission, games, trivia, and local brews.

Several restaurants in the Des Moines metro offer Oktoberfest-themed events as well.
