The mother of a "beloved" teen who tragically drowned in Glasgow’s River Kelvin has called for "enhanced safety" measures. ‌

On July 12, Emilis Vanagas died in the river aged just 15. His body was recovered from the river close to Maryhill Road following a five-hour search. ‌

Emilis’ mother, Daiva Stankeviciene, has now called for action to be taken around the area where her son got into difficulty, known locally as the “Slushie”, reports Glasgow Live. ‌

Heartbroken Daiva said: “I am driven by the hope that sharing my story might prevent further tragedies.

“On a fateful day, July 12, 2025, I lost my beloved son, only 15 years old, in the churning waters of the Kelvin River, Glasgow, near the area locally known as 'Slushie.'”
