US Naval Academy is placed under lockdown amid threats
(NYT) — The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, was placed under lockdown Thursday after receiving threats, a spokesperson said.
Local law enforcement officers were responding to the campus, said Lt. Naweed Lemar, a spokesperson for the U.S. Navy.
Ambulances gathered at a staging area at the rear gate to the campus, with several moving forward about 20 minutes later. The campus was mostly silent, except for the whirring of helicopter circling overhead.
A nearby military base, Naval Support Activity Annapolis, which provides security and other support for the academy, was also responding, Lemar said. He did not describe the threats.
Calls to the school’s public affairs office went unanswered Thursday evening.
