A $3 million development plan to demolish the old Tuart Hill post office and turn the site into a three-storey childcare centre has been approved by state planning authorities.
The Inner Metro Development Assessment Panel voted unanimously on Tuesday to approve the childcare plans, which will provide capacity for 94 children and 20 staff, and is proposed to operate on weekdays from 6:30 am to 7:00 pm.
The childcare centre will be built on the corner of Wanneroo Road and Cape Street, where the old post office building currently sits, and will have 13 on-site car parking bays, including one ACROD bay and a manoeuvring bay.
From the early 1950s until the 1990s, Tuart Hill’s post office called the site home, before relocating 100 metres north. The building has been empty in recent years.
