(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Charlie Kirk, a conservative political activist, was supposed to speak at the Truth & Liberty Conference in Southern Colorado, but he was assassinated before the event.

The conference proceeded as planned, with organizers using Kirk's death as a moment to bring people together.

Supporters of Kirk gathered outside Charis Bible College in Woodland Park to honor his memory, lining the streets with signs and gestures of support.

The Truth & Liberty Conference, originally intended to celebrate the conservative values Kirk championed, became a somber memorial in his honor.

"I believe that with every honk that is received, every wave, every recognition of Charlie shows his love, how much people loved him," said Karen Little, a resident of Woodland Park.
