ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle collision that killed one person in Rockbridge County.

VSP officers were dispatched to a report of a collision involving two vehicles on Thursday afternoon, September 11, on southbound Interstate 81 at the 199.6 mile-marker.

Police say a 1995 Ford Super Wagon was traveling south on the freeway when a 2004 Freightliner tractor trailer merged into its lane. The Ford swerved to avoid the collision resulting in the vehicle losing control, crashing into a median and rolled over multiple times.

The passenger of the Ford, identified as 23-year-old Domingo Sanchez-Lopez of Roanoke, was found injured and taken to a hospital where he died; he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, according to police.
