WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - Eighty years after his death in World War II, a Wythe County soldier has finally been laid to rest on home soil.

Private First Class Estle Corvin was buried Saturday with full military honors, decades after he was killed near the village of Reipertswiller, France, on Jan. 21, 1945.

Corvin was born June 17, 1925, to the late Robert Sanders and Julia Matilda Baumgardner Corvin. He entered the United States Army on Dec. 29, 1943, at the age of 17. He served with Company K, 3rd Battalion, 157th Infantry Division in the European Theater before being killed in action less than two years later.

His remains were identified in 2024 through modern testing and military records. For relatives, the day carried both disbelief and relief knowing their soldier was finally hom
