Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs on Sept. 11 signed an executive order that is a first step in giving state residents access to updated COVID-19 vaccines without needing a prescription.

Her action follows similar steps taken in other states, including Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico, where state leaders have intervened to give their residents access to the new COVID-19 vaccine without needing approval from a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention vaccine advisory board. The board was not set to meet until Sept. 18 and has been mired in turmoil under U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
