WILLIAMSPORT — A federal judge has been asked to approve an interim consent order that would allow students attending charter, cyber charter and faith-based schools in Pennsylvania to participate in sports their current schools don’t offer.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and the Religious Rights Foundation of Pa. made the request Thursday in a joint motion filed in the U.S. Middle District Court.
It is the latest step taken to resolve the suit the State College-based foundation filed along with three sets of parents that accused the PIAA of discriminating against parochial students by not letting them play sports in public schools.
