LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - On this day three years ago, Malcolm X was unanimously voted into the Nebraska Hall of Fame .
Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little in Omaha in 1925 and who later changed his name to el-Hajj Malik el-Shabazz, was an outspoken member of the Civil Rights movement, forming the Organization of Afro-American Unity in 1964.
“Malcolm was in search of truth for the human family, in search of justice, he believed in our whole humanity,” Malcom X’s daughter, Ilyasah Shabazz, said at his induction ceremony . “He believed that we were able to come together and live as a human family.”
He was assassinated a year later in New York City.
A controversial figure, Malcolm X often argued the black people should defend and advance themselves in society “by any means necessary.”
