WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) - Some schools in Pasco County are getting a million-dollar boost in the form of new sidewalks in areas that need it.

A check was presented Friday morning to fund the safer sidewalks. Officials said the commute for students going to elementary, middle, and high school in Wesley Chapel is going to be a lot safer.

This entire project is all happening thanks to a 13-year-old.

Josh Patrick is an 8th grade student that has become an advocate for his peers and local community.

"I saw a lot of children in danger, dodging cars, and I saw a lot of kids arriving to school covered in water and mud from walking in drainage ditches. I thought it was unacceptable, and I needed to do something about it," he said.
