The Dodgers plummeted from baseball’s best offense in the first half to ranking 30th in scoring during a five-week stretch.

Team officials say widespread injuries were only part of the story, also citing players losing focus on situational hitting and competitive at-bats for the dramatic decline.

With a healthier roster and renewed emphasis on team fundamentals, the Dodgers hope to fix their struggles before October.

To Andrew Friedman , something like this was a virtual impossibility.

“If you had said that we would have a six-week stretch where our offense would rank 30th in baseball, I would have said there was a zero percent chance,” the Dodgers president of baseball operations said last month.

“I would have been wrong,” he quickly added.
