Shot clocks are coming to high school basketball in Nevada this season. And along with that, more officials are needed to work high school and middle school basketball games.
The high school basketball season starts in November and the middle school season starts in September for both boys and girls.
There are currently about 85 officials registered to work this season. Jeff Leathers, president of the Northern Nevada Basketball Officials Association, said he would like to have about 120.
“The more officials we can get, the better. We’ve got guys in their 50s running seven or eight games a week," Leathers said. “Officiating is a chance to stay close to the sport, mentor young athletes and be part of a supportive and passionate community.”
