CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Dr. Angelia Riggsbee , the former director of business operations for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, announced she has filed a federal lawsuit against Sheriff Garry McFadden , alleging she was wrongfully terminated in retaliation for reporting pay disparities and financial irregularities inside the department.

Riggsbee, flanked by her legal team at the press conference Friday, said her 35-year career in accounting and business management was “shattered” when she was abruptly fired in November 2024 after just eight months on the job. She alleges she was escorted out of the sheriff’s office by armed deputies in what she called a humiliating act of retaliation.
